“I tell you, of all who have ever lived, none is greater than John. Yet even the least person in the Kingdom of God is greater than he is!” Luke 7:28 (NLT)
I’ve been a Christian for a while. I’m a pastor and a pastor’s kid. And sometimes Jesus just doesn’t make sense to me.
Like here. I mean, if I’m reading this correctly, I’m greater than John the Baptist.
That makes absolutely no sense to me.
So, I tried to figure it out. Could it be because God’s Spirit lives in me? Well, no. John had God’s Spirit from before he was even born.
Well, what else could it be?
Best I can figure, it’s about community.
John may have had God’s Spirit, but his followers did not. John flew solo.
On the other hand, we’re on a team, a team full of people who are (at least supposed to be) full of God’s Spirit. And because of that, this Spirit-led, Spirit-filled team can accomplish more, can grow closer to God, and can have greater impact than the solo “Voice Calling in the Wilderness” ever could.
If (I say if) we’re willing to play as a team.
